Dion is a Veteran and his military service has been instrumental in shaping his commitment to community and public service. The discipline, leadership skills, and dedication instilled during his time in the U.S. Air Force Reserve and Georgia Air National Guard have seamlessly transitioned into his roles as a community advocate and leader. His military experience has equipped him with the resilience, strategic thinking, and organizational prowess crucial for navigating the challenges of community and public service. This background not only underscores his commitment to duty but also positions him to effectively contribute to the betterment of our community.

Most recently, serving as the Special Assistant for Community Relations in the 60th Assembly District, he was the go-to person for constituents and community organizations. From addressing concerns with courtesy to spearheading community outreach initiatives, his role was about bridging the gap between the Assembly and our local community.

His journey started well before the Assembly chambers. During his tenure as a student leader at CUNY Bronx Community College, he emerged as a passionate advocate and activist. Committed to creating positive change, he actively engaged in various advocacy initiatives, championing causes that resonated with the diverse student body. Serving as a Senator and Executive Secretary in the Student Government Association, he liaised between the student body and the administration, corresponded with elected officials, and represented the SGA at on and off-campus events. This period marked a crucial chapter in his journey as a community leader, honing his skills in effective communication, strategic planning, and grassroots mobilization. It was during these formative years that he recognized the transformative power of activism and advocacy, solidifying his commitment to fostering a more equitable and just community.

During his appointment as the Transportation Committee Chairperson for Community Board 17, he led initiatives to enhance our local transportation infrastructure, ensuring our community's needs are effectively communicated to relevant agencies. Serving in various capacities, such as a Board Member, Second Vice Chairperson, Secretary, Budget Committee Chairperson, and Sergeant-at-Arms, has given him a comprehensive understanding of community dynamics, budget management, and effective accountability.

In the realm of local politics, he served as the Field Operations Director for a 2022 Assembly Candidate. In this role, he identified the need and opportunities for education and growth, which has further fueled his passion for empowering voters and contributing to the transformation of our local Democratic Party.
